PHYDI – Physical and Digital Message
Mac Funamizu has designed this cool haptic concept phone for the future mobile design competition whose theme was “Design the mobile phone of 2020”.
The design concept is based on very advanced haptic technologies: transformable materials and tactile display technologies.
1. Changing the shape
Email notification
Battery run-out
You have unread messages
Call notification by waving its front surface
3D file management: Icons and folders are embossed on the tactile display.
3D map: a mobile version of X-men’s tabletop display
[from Human Computer Interaction in Science Fiction Movies]
Real button emulation
Ebook reader: see the lower right corner of the display. You can find a curl like a real book.
Braille display for the blind
3. Make it unique
Make your phone unique by customizing the front surface

PS: Below is a possible mechanical structure of the tactile displaying part of the above concept phone. I found it at Yanko Design.
